D.C. United News Release

Washington, D.C. (November 17, 2006) - Toronto FC today selected D.C. United midfielder Rod Dyachenko in the 2006 Major League Soccer Expansion Draft. To prepare for its inaugural season in MLS, Toronto FC chose one player from 10 MLS teams to join their roster, though every team was allowed to protect 11 of its players that would be off-limits for the draft.

"We are sorry to have lost Rod in the expansion draft," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "He is an excellent young player with a bright future and we wish him the best of luck with his new club."

In his rookie season with D.C. United, Dyachenko quickly worked his way into the lineup. The quick-footed midfielder saw time in nine matches (four starts), and also appeared in two of the Black-and-Red's post-season matches. A versatile and talented young player with great potential, Dyachenko was also a key member of the D.C. reserve team as well, appearing in all 12 of the team's matches and leading all Reserve Division players with five assists.
