T-Birds come up short against Americans

SEATTLE, October 29, 2006 - The Tri-City Americans beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Sunday night in front of 2, 546 at KeyArena.

The T-Birds are 4-4-0-5, and remain in third place in the U.S. Division, along with the idle Spokane Chiefs.

The T-Birds got on the board first at 19:33 of the opening period on the second goal of the year from Chris Durand. Scott Jackson dished the puck to Durand along the near boards. Durand squared up to the goal and fired a wrister towards the crease that deflected off a Tri-City player and bounced over the right shoulder of Ams goalie Chet Pickard for the 1-0 lead. With the goal, Jackson increased his assist streak to four games. Tri-City (10-5-0-0) outshot Seattle 9-6 in the first.

The Americans tied the game at 18:27 of the second period on a power-play goal from Colton Yellow Horn. Alex Aldred and Matt Swaby had the assists.

The Ams made it 2-1 at 19:55 of the second on a power-play goal from Aldred. Yellow Horn and Eric Mestery assisted on the play.

Tri-City outshot Seattle 9-7 in the second and led 18-13 through two periods.

Michael Kaye made it 3-1 Americans at 10:33 of the third period. Assists went Yellow Horn and Swaby.

The T-Birds quickly made it 3-2 on a goal from Jan Eberle. The goal came at 10:46 of the third and was Eberle's third of the year. Eberle has two goals and two assists in his last three games. Jeremy Schappert recorded the lone assist. Seattle outshot Tri-City 12-5 in the third and 25-23 on the night.

Derek Yeomans turned away 20 of 23 shots as his record goes to 4-3-3.

Pickard Stopped 23 of 25 and improved his record to 4-2-0.

The T-Birds travel south to Portland on Friday, November 3, for the first game of a home-and-home series with the Winter Hawks. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Rose Garden. On Saturday, the T-Birds return home to KeyArena for game two of the weekend series with Portland. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The T-Birds wrap-up the weekend with a trip to Chilliwack on Sunday, November 5, when they face the Bruins of the B.C. Division. Game time is 5:00 p.m.
