Vancouver Dragons to play in CBA

September 26, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

ALBANY, NY (September 26, 2006) - The Continental Basketball Association today announced that the Vancouver Dragons will participate in the 2006-07 CBA Season. The Dragons will play their games at the 4,500-seat Agrodome on the grounds of the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) in downtown Vancouver British Columbia, host city of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Veteran coach Rick Turner will serve as the Dragons first head coach. This marks the fourth CBA franchise to be located in Canada. The Dragons join the Saskatchewan Hawks (2001-02), Toronto Tornados (1983 - 85) and Alberta Dusters (1980 - 82) as CBA franchises in Canada.

Puget Sound and Sport Entertainment, PSSE will operate the Dragons. PSSE is the brainchild of Bellevue executive Michael Tuckman, who will serve as the Co-general partner of West Coast Sports Holdings, Inc, the parent company of the Vancouver franchise, and as President and CEO of Professional Basketball Club of Vancouver, Limited Partnership, the owner and operator of the team.

PSSE President and CEO, Michael Tuckman, commented, "We're thrilled to be making a long term commitment to this league. The CBA is a premier league and organization that we could not be more pleased to join. We will strive to bring the best basketball to the city of Vancouver and we will do it at an affordable price. The fans will be excited to see what we have in store for them this season."

"The Vancouver Dragons mark our return to Canada," said CBA Director of Operations Dennis Truax. "We have had great success with teams in the past that were located in Canada and we are glad to be back. The Dragons will be playing in a new modern arena and I know that they will be able to get the fans out to their games because of this great facility. The Dragons have a natural rival with last years CBA Champions, the Yakama Sunkings, and serve as a vital cog in the National Conference. The Dragons make a great addition to the CBA and will be here for years to come."

The CBA recently completed its 60th anniversary season on March 27 with the Yakama Sun Kings defeating the Gary Steelheads in a best-of-three-game series. That series featured the CBA's 2006 Player of the Year, Anthony Goldwire (Sun Kings), and the CBA's 2006 Coach of the Year, Jaren Jackson (Steelheads).
