Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with Langley, British Columbia native, David Morisset.

The 6'1", 191-lb Right Winger was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (#65 overall) of the 2000 NHL entry draft. In his professional career, Morisset has earned time with the Florida Panthers of the NHL, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL), and the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.

"David is a high end acquisition for us," said Tony MacAulay, Salmon Kings Head Coach, "He has a winning attitude and will be a solid first line forward. He could still be a prospect for the AHL and NHL."

The 25-year-old began his career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 1997-98. In four seasons and 196 games, Morisset tallied 137 points (65 goals, 72 assists), with his best season in 2000-01, posting 68 points (32 goals, 36 assists) in 61 games.

He also participated in the 2000 Home Hardware Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game and represented the WHL West All-Stars in the 2001 Hershey Cup CHL All-Star Series. During the skills testing, Morisset finished third in the 150' dash (5.668 seconds) and second in the Full Lap (14.605 seconds)

Before his leap to the big leagues, Morisset was a member of the 2001 Canadian national team, which won bronze at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Moscow.

In February of 2001, the St. Louis Blues traded Morisset to the Florida Panthers before he had even played a single game for the Blues organization.

In his first season with the Panthers organization, Morisset spent the majority of the season in Bridgeport (AHL) and scored 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) while playing in a handful of games with the parent club. Morisset returned to the AHL for the 2002-03 season with the San Antonio Rampage.

"Having seen many sides of the hockey world, I hope to take a leadership role with the Salmon Kings," said Morissett. "I've been keeping my eye on Victoria, and I like the direction in which the coaching and management staff is taking the team. I am looking forward to getting my game back and bringing a winning atmosphere to the club."

The Salmon Kings regular season begins on Friday October 20th in Anchorage, AK against the Aces. Their first home game at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre is on Wednesday October 25th against the Idaho Steelheads.
