ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President & General Manager Craig Brush, along with Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Brett Peterson from the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL in exchange for the rights to defenseman John Adams, and have signed him to a contract for the 2006-07 season.

Peterson joins the Everblades after spending playing in all 72 games with the Chiefs last season. The Northborough, Massachusetts native notched a career high 24 points (5g, 19a) and 69 penalty minutes during the 2005-06 campaign with Johnstown, and also chipped in one goal in five Kelly Cup Playoff games.

Peterson, who will turn 25 on October 21, began his professional career in 2004-05 by splitting the year between the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies and the Chiefs. After opening the season by tallying nine points (3g, 6a) and 41 PIM in 56 games with the Bullies, Peterson finished off his rookie season with one goal and three assists in 13 games with Johnstown.

"Brett is a player we are glad to add to our roster." Brush said. "He's a solid defenseman who can also play the forward position, and was a player that a lot of other teams were interested in. He's a good skater and can move the puck well, and we feel that he will be a good addition to our club."

Prior to turning pro Peterson played four years at the collegiate level with the Boston College Eagles. His top season with the Eagles came in his junior year when he collected nine points in 38 games. Overall the 5'-11", 199 lb Peterson finished with 28 points (8g, 20a) and 139 PIM in 157 career games with Boston College.

Peterson is the 11th player on the Everblades 2006-07 roster, joining Phil Aucoin, Reggie Berg, Ryan Brindley, Steve Czech, Ernie Hartlieb, Jon Jankus, Chris Lee, Andrew Martens, Brent McDonald and Niko Tuomi as players signed by the club.
