Spokane Chiefs News Release

Derek Ryan and Adam Hobson each scored two goals as Spokane held on for a 6-5 victory over the Tri- City Americans on Saturday night in the Chiefs fifth pre-season game of the year. With the win, Spokane ups their exhibition record to 4-1.

Tri-City started the game quick with a goal 35- seconds in by Drew Hoff. It would be the only goal that Thomas Stehr would allow as the 18-year-old would stop the next eight shots he faced and leave the game with a 3-1 lead.

Sixteen-year-old rookie Levko Koper tied the game at one at 1:40 with an assist by Mitch Wahl. Ryan gave the Chiefs a 2-1 lead with 20-seconds remaining in the period. Evan Haw and Judd Blackwater assisted on the goal.

11:06 into the second, Ryan scored his second of the night as Ryan Bryce and Mike Reddington helped on the play. Tri-City scored again at the 15:43 mark to pull within one.

Spokane eventually pushed the scored to 4-2 with a goal by Chris Langkow, his second in as many games, at the 17:00 mark of the second. Tri-City pulled back to one down at 19:38 with a goal by Brock Cornish.

At 3:54 of the third, Hoff scored a shorthanded goal for his second of the night and tie it at four, but Hobson's goals, seven seconds apart, put the game out of reach for Spokane. The 19-year-old veteran scored at 10:05 and 10:12 to give the Chiefs a two goal cushion.

The Americans scored a power play goal with five seconds remaining to finish the game.

Kevin Armstrong played 28:54 and faced 19 shots, giving up four goals. Spokane outshot Tri-City 42-26 on the night.

Hobson will leave the Chiefs next week and attend the Chicago Blackhawks training camp, the fourth Chief to attend a pro-camp this year. Sean Zimmerman (New Jersey), Michael Grabner (Vancouver) and Matt McCue (San Jose) all missed the trip to Tri-City for their respective camps.

The Chiefs will host the Americans on Friday, September 15th at Eagles Ice-A-Rena in Spokane's lone home exhibition game of the year. Tickets are on sale now at the Chiefs office and at Eagles. The following night, Spokane will travel to take on Tri- City in their seventh and final exhibition game of the year.

The regular season will begin on Saturday, September 23thd when Spokane travels to Cranbrook, BC to take on the Ice. After four road games, the Chiefs will then host Tri-City in their regular season home opener on October 7th. Individual tickets will go on sale at the Chiefs office and all TicketsWest locations on Tuesday, September 12th.
