Blue Downs White 4-1 In Annual Klassen Affair

Kennewick, WA - The Tri-City Americans today officially closed out training camp as Team Blue beat Team White 4-1in the 14th annual Todd Klassen Memorial Scholarship Game played before 618 fans at Toyota Center. A total of $2,787.14 today was raised through donations to the scholarship fund.
Team White would take a 1-0 lead after one period as Aaron Boogaard would tally at 16:40 on a set up by Adam Hughesman. The lead would be short lived as Team Blue would score three times in a 3:34 span of the second period to take the lead for good.
All four Blue goals were scored in the second period as Reid McLeod would knot the contest at 1-all at 3:15 with an assist by Colin Phaneuf. Colten Dericksen would notch what proved to be the game-winner from the slot at 5:07 on the power play with assists from Nicholaus Knudsen and Drew Hoff. The lead grew to 3-1 as Alex Aldred would score on a wrist shot on a perfect pass from Chris Inglis. .
Team Blue closed out the scoring at 9:26 of the second when Jon Smith would score a power play goal from the slot with help from Aldred and Inglis.
Peter Van Stolk would stop 15 of 16 shot for Team Blue in 31 minutes of play for the win. Carey Price played the final 29 minutes and would stop all 10 shots he faced on the day.
Kyle Birch would get the start for Team White and made 15 saves on 19 shots in 31 minutes. Chet Pickard would play the final 29 minutes and stopped all 17 shots.
The Americans will resume practice on Tuesday to prepare for the Red Lion Pre-Season Tournament featuring all five U.S. Division teams beginning next Friday afternoon at 3 pm at Toyota Center. Discount ticket packages for all six games remain on sale at the Americans office through Thursday at 5pm. Adult ticket packages are $39 while students (3-17) can attend all six games for just $33.
