August 20, 2006 - Pioneer League (PL)
Great Falls Voyagers News Release

The White Sox brought a halt to their season-long ten game losing streak with a 7-5 triumph over Ogden last night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls grabbed it's first lead in five games on a Lee Cruz RBI single in the third inning to move the Sox in front of the Raptors 2-1 at the time. GF would build that lead to four runs on two occasions before holding on for the two run victory. Cruz, Reymundo Tavares, Tyler Reves and Archie Gilbert each collected two hits to pace a 13 hit Sox attack offensively (Reves and Gilbert each drove in a pair of runs as well). Great Falls played an errorless game defensively with Gilbert making a spectacular diving catch and OF Christian Marrero throwing a runner out at second base from left field. And on the mound, starter Ramon Sanchez was solid in yielding three runs through five innings of work to notch his Pioneer League leading sixth victory with reliever Michael Rocco tossing 2.1 innings of stifling shutout baseball to collect his third save of the season. Great Falls is now 5-16 in the season's second half with 17 games to play. The White Sox open a three game series with Southern Division first half winner Orem this afternoon at Centene Stadium.

TYSON TAKES THE BALL: 20 year old RHP Tyson Corley makes his third start of the season today. He's taken the vacated rotation spot left by Justin Cassell's recent promotion to Class A Winston-Salem of the Carolina League. Corley's two prior starts have seen him surrender nine earned runs on 14 hits in six innings of work. Corley brings an 0-4 record and 7.52 earned run average into this afternoon's contest with Orem. He's lost his last two outings. Tyson's a 6-6, 200 pound Shawnee, Kansas native who spent a season pitching at South Mountain, Arizona Community College finishing his collegiate career at Kansas University before he was selected in the 13th round of the June 2006 draft by the Chicago White Sox.
