Great Falls Voyagers News Release

SERIES TURNERS: Since taking the opening game of this four game series with the Mustangs in Billings 10-3 Tuesday night, the White Sox have been outscored 16-3 by Billings in back to back setbacks. The Mustangs drilled the Sox Wednesday night 9-2 and plated seven runs in the decisive fifth inning last night to break open a tight game enroute to a 7-1 rout. Great Falls 2B John Shelby actually gave the Sox a brief 1-0 lead with a two-out solo homer in the top of the fifth inning against Billings starter and winner Travis Webb, but the edge vanished in the bottom of the fifth inning as Justin Turner led off with his first home run of the season to tie the score at 1-1. Billings proceeded to push six more across against White Sox starter and loser Justin Cassel. Chris Valaika, Jason Louwsma and Turner delivered two run base hits to complete the scoring. The White Sox have lost two in a row and nine of their last ten games on the road. They bring a 4-8 second half record into tonight's series finale, trailing both Billings and Missoula by three games in the Pioneer League's Northern Division standings.

SANTILEZ GETS THE BALL: 19 year old RHP Clevelan Santilez will look to battle through flu-like symptoms over the past few days to make his tenth start of the season tonight. The Venezuelan native is 1-4 on the season, coming off of an 8-4 loss to Billings August 6 his last time out. In that game he allowed three earned runs on four hits in five innings of work, walking four and striking out six. Santilez' only victory of the season came against Idaho Falls 8-1 on July 16 as he limited the Chukars to one run on three hits in six strong innings of work. Santilez had permitted three or more earned runs in four of his previous nine starts. He began the season at Class A Kannapolis of the South Atlantic League where he worked sixteen times in relief posting an 0-2 record and 6.85 ERA.

HOW THE SOX STACK UP: John Shelby's sixth homer of the season in last night's 7-1 loss to Billings was the team's Pioneer League high 45th of the season. The Sox are currently third in hitting as a team (.272), sixth in runs scored (259), while standing third in hits (462). On the mound, Great Falls is sixth in team ERA (4.55).
