Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA- It was a close game all night but the Nashua Pride won 2-1 over the Worcester Tornadoes on Thursday night at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
The Tornadoes scored first tonight in the second inning when DH Jabe Bergeron hit a double that scored catcher Onix Mercado who reached base on a single.
The Pride's DH Larry Bethea hit a towering solo shot to left field to lead off the sixth inning to tie the game at 1-1. They scored again in the eighth as Bethea, who reached base on a single, scored on a wild pitch by closer Dave Byard. The Pride had runners at first and third threatening but shortstop Bob Tewksbary started a double play that ended the inning. That run would prove to be all the Pride would need to hold on to the lead.
The Tornadoes will welcome the Brockton Rox to town tomorrow night at 7:05 PM for the start of a three game series. It is Back to School Night and the first 1,000 kids in the park will receive backpacks courtesy of Hanover Insurance and WXLO. Tornadoes DJ Mattox will take on Rox southpaw Rolando Viera.
