Texas Thunder Signs Outfielder for Remainder of Season

August 3, 2006 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Rockford Thunder News Release

HOUSTON - Texas Thunder of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) and team general manager Aaron M. Moore announced today that they have signed Elkins High School and Baylor graduate Kelly Osburn for the remainder of the 2006 season.

Because of the late signing, Osburn will not join the team until they return from Akron at the beginning of next week.

Osburn, 22, will provide some much-needed depth to the outfield group of the Texas Thunder. She is being brought in to help fill the holes that will soon be left by Julie Watson and Danyele Gomez, both of who have to leave the team early because of prior school commitments. Watson is returning to California to begin her first year of teaching and Gomez is returning to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette to complete her bachelor's degree.

During the 2006 season at Baylor, Osburn was a .320 (58-for-181) hitter with some power. She hit 15 home runs (second on the team) and drove in 37. Her 38 career bombs are the most in Baylor softball history. She is also first on the all-time Baylor softball list with 106 career walks.

"Kelly is a good fit to our team and she is going to help fill the holes left by Watson and Gomez," said Moore. "We are thrilled that Kelly will be joining us. It's always nice to sign some local talent and Kelly is just that."

"I am very excited to be able to continue playing the sport I love," said Osburn. "This is an opportunity that I am extremely thankful for and I am going to take in this experience."

At Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas, Osburn was a three-sport athlete, earning letters in softball, swimming and volleyball. She helped lead the Knights to three district titles and she graduated cum laude.

Osburn will wear No. 25 for the remainder of the 2006 season.

Texas will host Team Canada in its final home series of the season on Aug. 9 - 12 at Big League Dreams in League City. Tickets start at just $5 for groups of 10 or more. The largest teams to attend Friday and Saturday night's games will each receive a soft toss machine courtesy of the Texas Thunder and JKP Sports.
