August 2, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds and Head Coach Jean Laforest have announced that goaltender Jeremy Symington has signed a contract with the Hounds for the 2006-07 season.

Symington, 27, returns to the Central Hockey League (CHL) after spending the 2005-06 campaign in the United Hockey League (UHL) with the Port Huron Flags. The former eighth round selection (196th overall) of the New York Islanders in the 1997 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft has had his best success in the CHL where he has played in 72 games posting a 33-37-9 record with three shutouts, a 2.71 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.

"Jeremy brings experience to the position and is someone who has had success in the CHL," said Laforest. "Last year had to be frustrating for him so I am sure he is going to be chomping at the bit to get out there and show what he is capable of doing."

The Camlachie, Ontario native was a part of the goaltending tandem with the Laredo Bucks that led the Bucks to the 2005 CHL finals. The 6-0, 200-pound netminder allowed just 16 goals in seven playoff games with Laredo posting a 3-4-0 record and a .918 save percentage. During the 2004-05 season, Symington was selected as a Southern Conference All-Star and was the overall goalie winner in the LNB All-Star Skills Competition. He had one of the best stretches in the CHL that season winning eight straight starts from December 3-26 posting a remarkable .954 save percentage. He finished the regular season strong going 4-0 in March with a 1.00 goals against average and a .955 save percentage.

Prior to his season with the Bucks, Symington played for the Lubbock Cotton Kings posting a 15-17-8 record with a respectable .905 save percentage. The Cotton Kings struggled that season recording just 19 wins.

Symington is 65-58-19 with six shutouts in his professional career. He played five games in the American Hockey League with the Binghamton Senators (the top affiliate of the Ottawa Senators) during the 2002-03 season going 3-1-1 with a 2.32 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.

His college hockey was played at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York where he posted a career mark of 23-16-0.

The Hounds are set to open the season on October 27th at the Chevrolet Centre. For more information please call 330-747-PUCK (7825) or visit www.steelhounds.com.
