Coyotes Sign Travis Roche

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have signed defenseman Travis Roche to a two-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old Roche joins Phoenix after playing in 59 games with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2005-06, collecting 8 goals, 31 assists, 39 points and 73 penalty minutes (PIM). Roche led all Chicago defensemen in both assists and points last season. He also ranked 4th on the team in assists.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound blueliner has played in 10 NHL games all with Minnesota over parts of three seasons. Two years ago, the Grand Cache, Alberta native had his best season when he scored 12 goals, 38 assists and 50 points for the Wolves in 2004-05. He led all Chicago blueliners in goals and points that season and earned AHL First All-Star Team honors. He won a Calder Cup championship with the Houston Aeros in 2003.

After a successful collegiate career at North Dakota (WCHA), Roche joined the professional ranks when he signed with Minnesota as a free agent on Apr. 8, 200 1.
