JackHammers earn two hits in a 4-0 Calgary shutout

JOLIET, IL-The Joliet JackHammers earned just two hits against Calgary Vipers starter Evan Greusel and were shut out 4-0 at Silver Cross Field on Friday night. The JackHammers drop to 15-31 with the loss.

Greusel (3-0) allowed just two hits to pitch his first complete game of the season. Mike Goss hit an infield single in the first inning and Jayson Drobiak followed with a single to right field in the seventh. Greusel retired 19 straight batters. The JackHammers were retired in order in innings two through six.

Calgary scored one run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Rogers. Aaron McEachran scored from third base and Calgary had a 1-0 lead.

Cheppenko (2-4) departed from the game after allowing one run on one hit in seven innings pitched. He suffered the loss in allowing five walks and striking out six.

Carlos Duncan hit a three-run home run off Derell McCall in the eighth inning to round out the scoring at 4-0.

The JackHammers and Vipers continue their three-game series Saturday night. The first pitch is at Silver Cross Field at 7:05. The starters for the game have yet to be announced.
