Rockford Thunder News Release

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - The Thunder scored two early runs on Friday night and Danyele Gomez launched her second home run of the season to help Texas defeat the Connecticut Brakettes by a final score of 3-1.

Texas was trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the first inning, but they quickly responded by scoring a run of their own to tie the game. The Thunder would score the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kristen Zaleski singled and moved to third on a steal of second and a groundout. She came in to score on a Nikki Myers wild pitch.

The big shot of the game came off the bat of the rookie Gomez. Gomez, who hit 31 home runs in her senior season at University of Louisiana-Lafayette, hit her second home run of the season to give Texas the 3-1 win.

Nicole Neuerburg was in the circle for the Thunder on Friday and she did a great job of holding the Brakettes in check. The right-hander went the first six innings in the game before giving way to Christa Williams in the seventh. During her six innings, Neuerburg surrendered five hits and struck out seven. The win improved her to 2-3 on the season. Williams was nearly perfect in her inning of work, walking one, to record her first save of the season.

Myers took the loss on the night, her first of the season. She is now 4-2 on the season.

The win improved the Thunder to 14-9 on the season, while the Connecticut Brakettes dropped to 11-7 on the season. More importantly, the win for Texas also moved them closer to leap-frogging Connecticut into third place in the league.

Connecticut and Texas will play game four of the series Saturday night at Big League Dreams in League City. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. This will be the final game for the two teams in League City before matching up next Thursday through Sunday in Stratford. Saturday's game, as well as all four games in Connecticut will be available live on the internet at www.ctbrakettes.com.

On Saturday night all general admission tickets will be 2-for-1. General admission tickets are $7 each and can be purchased at the gate.
