Shabala to represent Fresno in 2006 Triple-A All-Star Game

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno outfielder Adam Shabala will represent the Fresno Grizzlies in the 2006 Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 12 at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio. Shabala will join other standout players to play for the PCL when the league takes on the International League in the 19th annual Triple-A All-Star Game.

Shabala, a seven-year minor league veteran, earned his selection by leading the Grizzlies with a .292 (61-for-209) batting average with 16 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 34 RBI in 64 games this season. Primarily an outfielder, Shabala has shown versatility this year starting the majority of his games (27) at third base.

The 28-year-old Illinois product spent the past two seasons with Fresno, hitting .273 in 2005 and .314 in 2004 with the Grizzlies. Shabala made his only Major League stint last season with the Giants and recording four RBI in six games with San Francisco. He was selected by the Giants in the 10th round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.

Shabala joins the 14-player list of All-Time All-Stars in Grizzlies history along with Mike Cervenak and Yamid Haad (2005), Brian Dallimore and Lee Gardner (2004), Todd Linden and Manny Aybar (2003), Edwards Guzman and Aybar (2002), Cody Ransom (2001), Steve Connelly (2000), Cory Bailey (1999) and Armando Rios, Jeff Ball, Chris Brock and Jeff Darwin (1998).

The 2006 All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN 2 and can also be heard on the Grizzlies local radio station, 1550 Sporting News Radio. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. PST on Wednesday, July 12.
