Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Adam Shabala's home run in the 8th inning put the Grizzlies ahead for good on their way to a 6-5 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Wednesday night at Grizzlies Stadium.

The Grizzlies took the first lead in the 2nd inning on Chad Santos' two-run blast, his 11th homer on the season. They added to the lead in the third on Todd Linden's two-RBI double off the center field wall to put the Grizzlies up 4-0.

Colorado Springs battled back in a strange 4th inning, where the Grizzlies made three errors as the Sky Sox scored two runs off of wild pitches by starter Matt Kinney to cut the lead to 4-3. The Sky Sox tied it in the next inning on third baseman Jason Smith's sacrifice fly that scored first baseman Carlos Rivera.

Fresno (29-43) took the lead in the 7th inning when Santos came through again with a single that knocked in Linden. Linden tripled to lead off the inning and finished the game 2-for-5 with a double, triple and two RBI.

Reliever Jack Taschner threw a scoreless 7th inning, but gave up the game-tying homer to Smith with one out. However, Taschner (4-2) picked up the win thanks to Shabala's game-winning blast in the bottom half of the 8th. Shabala went 2-for-3 with two runs and his fourth home run on the year.

Reliever Brian Wilson pitched a scoreless ninth to record his second save of the season.

Colorado Springs reliever Randy Williams (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing the homer to Shabala.

With the loss, the Sky Sox have now lost 11 consecutive games at Grizzlies Stadium, dating back to 2004.

The Grizzlies and Sky Sox play game two of a five-game series Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Matt Palmer will be on the mound for the Grizzlies in his Fresno debut after being called up from Double-A Connecticut and will face RHP Sun-Woo-Kim.
