Seattle Storm News Release
This Week's Opponents
Phoenix: The Storm have won both meetings with the Mercury this season, with both games featuring franchise-record performances by the Seattle. In the first meeting, Lauren Jackson poured in a club-record 35 points in a 94-81 win in Phoenix on May 25. In the June 2 rematch, the Storm set a franchise-high for scoring with a 97-87 win at KeyArena. The Storm have won seven straight home games against the Mercury and three straight in the all-time series overall.
San Antonio: The Silver Stars won the first meeting with the Storm this summer, edging ahead 11-10 in the all-time series. Sophia Young's 14-point, 11-rebound effort proved to be the difference as the rookie center hit three of four free throws in the closing seconds to preserve the 89-87 victory in Seattle. Since their move to San Antonio following the 2002 WNBA season, the Silver Stars have never won consecutive games at KeyArena.
Houston: Seattle fell 84-59 in the first meeting with Houston this summer, the Storm's worst defeat to any team since the 2004 season. Tina Thompson led the Comets with 19 points, including 11 in the second quarter as Houston pulled away. The Storm have struggled in Houston, posting just one victory in 11 all-time regular-season meetings, but did earn a 75-67 win at Toyota Center in the first game of the playoffs last August.
