Minnesota at Connecticut - Thursday, June 22, at Mohegan Sun Arena (6 p.m.)
The Lynx will head east to face the Connecticut Sun, who are tied with Washington and Los Angeles for the best record in the league at 7-3. Katie Douglas leads the Sun in scoring at 17.7 ppg and Nykesha Sales is right behind at 16.1. Seimone Augustus leads the Lynx in scoring at 23.0 ppg. When the two teams last met in the Lynx' first game of the season, Douglas had 28 and helped the Sun pull away in the fourth quarter. Minnesota leads the overall series 7-6, but has lost the last three games between the clubs.
LYNX PLAYERS TO CONDUCT BE FIT CLINIC
Minnesota Lynx players Svetlana Abrosimova and Shona Thorburn, along with Minnesota Lynx athletic trainer Alisha Hvistendahl will be conducting a Be Smart. Be Fit. Be Yourself clinic at the Downtown YWCA in Minneapolis today from 2 to 3 p.m. Seventy-five fifth and sixth grade children will join the Lynx and will be introduced to Yoga, learning techniques in relaxation, stretching, staying limber and preventing injuries. The players will educate the children about eating right and exercising while Lynx Athletic Trainer Alisha Hvistendahl will provide a list of examples of what athletes do to stay healthy. The Be Smart. Be Fit. Be Yourself program encourages youth and women of all ages to learn more about their bodies and the importance of physical fitness. The program is a call to action to women of all ages to make a commitment to being fit and healthy.
LYNX HOLD GREAT BASKETBALL DRIBBLE
The Eighth Annual U.S. Bank Minnesota Lynx Great Basketball Dribble, the team's yearly breast cancer fundraiser, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6 prior to the Lynx' game against the San Antonio Silver Stars. The Great Basketball Dribble raises funds to support breast cancer research and education in Minnesota, with all the proceeds from this year's event benefiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In seven-plus seasons, the Lynx have raised over half-a-million dollars for breast cancer research in the state of Minnesota through this signature event and other initiatives.
The Great Basketball Dribble, which kicks off at 4 p.m. at Target Center on Aug. 6, is a 2.5-mile walk (or dribble - basketballs are optional) through downtown Minneapolis. The registration fee for the event is $25 per participant and includes a T-shirt, refreshments, entertainment and a ticket to the Lynx game that evening against San Antonio (6 p.m. tip-off).
