Mississippi Braves News Release

Mississippi ended Jacksonville's historic run with an 11-7 win on Friday night at Trustmark Park.

The Braves took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the first inning on Friday night. Gregor Blanco led off the inning with the 50th triple of his career. After a Michael Rosamond walk, Barbaro Canizares broke out of an 0-8 slump with a two-out, two-RBI double to left center that brought Blanco and Rosamond to the plate and gave Mississippi an early 2-0 lead.

Mississippi added two more runs in the second after Francisely Bueno knocked a two-out single to left. Gregor Blanco walked and they both moved up a base on a wild pitch. With Bueno at third and Blanco at second, Luis Hernandez came through with a two-out single that brought the two runners home to give the Braves a 4-0 lead after two.

Tydus Meadows got the Suns on the board in the fourth with his second homer of this series and his sixth homer of the year. They added another run in the inning after Brad Cresse singled and eventually came around to score on an error by Josh Arteaga.

The Braves got the run back in the bottom of the fourth after Ray Serrano ripped his sixth double of the year. He moved up to third on an infield single by Onil Jospeh and scored on a sacrifice fly by Arteaga.

Jacksonville cut the Braves' lead to one in the sixth when Meadows singled and Brad Cresse blasted his seventh homerun over the wall in left making the score 5-4. The Suns went on to take the lead in the inning after Justin Ruggiano singled and Sergio Garcia walked. Ruggiano stole third and a throwing error by catcher Ray Serrano allowed him to score tying the game at five. Garcia came in to score the go-ahead run on a single by Jimmy Rohan to make the score 6-5, Suns.

Mississippi's offense woke up in the eighth. Michael Rosamond led off with a double to left-center and Barbaro Canizares followed with a walk. Ray Serrano laid down a sacrifice bunt, but pitcher Casey Hoorelbeke attempted to get Rosamond at third and threw the ball into left field allowing Rosamond to come home with the game-tying run. Onil Joseph was then intentionally walked to load the bases and Josh Arteaga was unintentionally walked bringing Canizares to the plate with the go-ahead run. Pinch hitter Mike Rozema then hit a sacrifice fly to left that brought Serrano to the plate to make the score 8-6. Gregor Blanco then drew a walk to load the bases again. A wild pitch brought Onil Joseph to the plate to make the score 9-6 Braves. Luis Hernandez then got a single up the middle that brought Arteaga and Blanco to the plate giving Mississippi an 11-6 lead heading into the ninth.

Jacksonville didn't go quietly though as they loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but could only get one run out of the inning as the Braves ended the Suns streak with an 11-7 win.
