Norfolk Tides News Release

June 15, 2006 - Jose Lima allowed just two hits over 6.0 innings of work, lifting the Tides to a 3-1 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox in game one of a doubleheader on Thursday. The Pawsox knocked off the Tides 5-1 in game two.

After allowing a leadoff home run to the Pawsox' Adam Stern in game one, Lima (5-4) faced just one batter over the minimum over the next six innings, striking out three and walking one. The 33-year-old allowed just a third inning single en route to his third win in his four decisions since re-joining the Tides from New York on May 25.

Royce Ring continued his recent dominance with a perfect 7th inning to pick up his fifth save of the year. The southpaw has turned in 16 consecutive scoreless appearances, notching 19.0 shutout innings over that stretch.

Xavier Nady, rehabbing from an appendectomy that landed him on the disabled list on May 30, led the Tides offense with two hits and two RBI. Nady doubled home two runs in a three-run third inning and singled to left field in the 7th.

Joe Hietpas tied the score at 1-1 with a solo home run in the third inning off of Pawtucket starter Mario Pena (0-1).

In game two, the Pawsox jumped on Norfolk starter Evan MacLane (6-1) early, handing the 23-year-old his first loss of the year in a Tides uniform. Pawtucket plated a run in the second inning, before opening up the game with a four-run third inning highlighted by a three-run home run by catcher Corky Miller.

Knuckleballer Charlie Zink (2-0) picked up the win for Pawtucket, allowing four singles and three walks in 6.0 innings of work. Zink struck out three and walked three.

Julio Ramirez paced the Tides offense in game two with two singles, while Anderson Hernandez drove home Norfolk's only run with an RBI groundout in the third inning.

Norfolk and Pawtucket will conclude their season series with a 7:15 contest from Harbor Park Friday night. John Maine (1-4, 3.60) is scheduled to take the mound for Norfolk against the Red Sox' David Pauley (NR).
