Bats sweep Braves

Richmond, VA - The Louisville Bats swept a doubleheader from the Richmond Braves Thursday at The Diamond. The Bats took the opener 6-0 and won the nightcap 8-1.
In the opener The Bats scored a run in the first on an RBI single by Andy Abad. They added a run in the second on a Matt Kata sacrifice fly. Kata crushed a two run homer in the fourth to make it 4-0. Three errors and a Jeff Bannon sac fly produced two more runs for the Bats in the fifth.
Three Bats pitchers combined to blank the Braves. Tom Shearn picked up the win. Kevin Barry took the loss. Abad had two hits for the Bats. Jonathan Schuerholz had two hits for the Braves.
In the nightcap the Bats blew the game open in the second inning, batting around to score five runs. Norris Hopper singled two home. Jeff Bannon and Kata doubled in a run each, and Ryan Jorgensen chased a run home with a single. The Braves cut the lead to 5-1 in the home half on a fly ball error. Kata drove in another run with a fourth inning single. The Bats capped the scoring with two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Bannon and pitcher Phil Dumatrait.
Dumatrait pitched a compete game three-hitter to earn the win. Kata had four hits for the Bats.
The Braves and Bats close their series Friday at 7 PM. Brian O'Connor will pitch for the Braves against Crhis Michalak.
