Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today the signing of right wing Brent Cullaton to a contract for the 2006-2007 season. He is the 4th player signed by the Jackals for the upcoming campaign.

Brent Cullaton brings championship experience (and rings) to the Jackals lineup. He has won the Central Hockey League's Ray Miron President's Cup twice with the Laredo Bucks, first in 2003-04 and then again this year, 2005-06. Cullaton has helped lead Laredo to the CHL Finals for the past three seasons; the Bucks lost to the Colorado Eagles in the 2004-05 Championship round. Over the course of his 10-year professional career Cullaton has boasts an impressive 67 points (15 goals, 52 assists) in 62 playoff games. During this year's CHL Finals against Bossier-Shreveport, the Petawawa, Ontario native scored at least one point in each of the 5 games of the series, posting 9 points (1 goal, 8 assists). Laredo won their second Cup in three seasons on May 6th, 2006 as Cullaton helped the Bucks come back from a 3-0 first period deficit to win 4-3 and claim the title.

"This is a major, major signing for Elmira," said General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "I have been pursuing Brent Cullaton for the last four years, trying to get him to play for one of my teams. Brent is a proven champion and he has instantly made Elmira a contender by signing with the Jackals."

At 31 years old, Cullaton has played in 649 career professional games, scoring 580 points (225 goals, 355 assists). In the past three seasons with Laredo, he has been called up for significant stretches with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage. Cullaton's best statistical season came in 2003-04. Not only did he win his first title with Laredo, but also combined between the Bucks and his AHL time with San Antonio, Cullaton scored 91 points (30 goals, 61 assists) in 70 games.

Cullaton, a 6'0" 220 pound right wing, was selected to the starting lineup for the CHL's Southern Conference All-Star team in both 2003-04 and 2004-05. He captured the fastest skater award at the Skills Competition in both All-Star appearances. He was selected as the Best Skater in the CHL in the 2004-05 CHL Best of the Best poll. Cullaton played college hockey at the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in Sports Medicine.

After completing their 6th season in franchise history in the UHL, the Jackals are gearing up for Season 7. Season tickets for the 2006-2007 UHL season are on sale now at the First Arena Box Office. For more information call 607-734-PUCK (7825).
