
Romero promoted to Triple-A, Purcey back with Fisher Cats

Manchester, NH- Lefty pitcher Davis Romero was promoted from the Fisher Cats to the Triple-A Syracuse SkyChiefs today and lefty David Purcey was added to the Fisher Cats roster from Syracuse. Also, right-hander Ismael Ramirez was placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 11 and outfielder Justin Singleton was added to New Hampshire's roster from Single-A Dunedin.
The 23-year-old Romero was 6-5 with a 2.93 ERA in 12 starts for the Fisher Cats this season. He held opponents to a .213 batting average and had 70 strikeouts in 73.2 innings pitched. He threw a complete game one-hitter May 1 against the Bowie Baysox (Orioles) at Merchantsauto.com Stadium and went 4-1 with 0.92 ERA in six starts at home. He was originally signed by the Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent in Panama in July of 1999.
The 24-year-old Purcey began this season with Syracuse and went 2-7 with a 5.40 ERA in 12 starts. In 51.2 innings pitched he allowed 38 walks and had 45 strikeouts. He spent part of last season with New Hampshire, going 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA in eight starts after joining the team from Single-A Dunedin on July 26. He was a first round pick (16th overall) of the Blue Jays in the 2004 draft out of Oklahoma University.
The 25-year-old Ramirez is 4-5 in 12 starts with the Fisher Cats this season despite posting an ERA of 1.74, second in the Eastern League. He spent all of last season with New Hampshire, going 8-13 with a 4.12 ERA in 27 starts. The Venezuela native was signed by the Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent on July 30, 1998.
The 27-year-old Singleton will be joining the Fisher Cats for a third consecutive season. He began this season with Triple-A Syracuse, hitting .194 with one home run and two RBI in nine games. He was then inactive until joining Single-A Dunedin June 8. He played in four games, going 3-for-14 (.214) with two RBI. Singleton spent part of last season with New Hampshire, hitting .213 with three home runs and nine RBI in 21 games. He spent the entire 2004 season with the Fisher Cats and was a member of the 2004 Eastern League Champion team, hitting .236 with 16 homers and 50 RBI in 129 games. He was originally signed by the Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent on September 5, 2000.
The Fisher Cats begin a three game series with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) in Trenton, NJ tomorrow at 7:05 PM.
