Manchester Wolves News Release

Manchester Wolves managing partner Steve Schubert will be presented with the Distinguished American Award by the Joe Yukica New Hampshire Chapter of the National Football Foundation tomorrow night during the chapter's flagship event at The Yard banquet facility in Manchester, NH.

Schubert is a former local football star that made it to the big time, playing six years in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Patriots and Chicago Bears. After graduating from Manchester Central High School, he went on to earn his degree at the University of Massachusetts. While at UMass, Schubert played a starring role on the Minutemen football team, earning All-America honors for his stellar senior season of 1972.

The Manchester native currently serves as Senior Vice President of UBS Financial Services and is one of ten local owners of the Wolves. Schubert's contributions to the local community include involvement on the boards of numerous charitable organizations, along with hosting the Panteli-Kotrotsios Golf Tournament for the last 30 years, and serving as the Honorary Chairman for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's 4th Annual Granite Gala in 2005. He and his wife Sandy reside in Candia. The couple has three children (Stacie, Stephanie, Scott) and four grandchildren (Cailey, Keira, Grace, and Tyler).

"I'm both humbled and gratified to receive this prestigious award," said Schubert. "It's a great honor."

There has been a total of 18 Distinguished American Awards given out by the Yukica New Hampshire Chapter since 1988, with recipients ranging from N.H. Governor Jeanne Shaheen (2005), Major league Baseball pitcher and N.H. native Bob Tewksbury (1999), to N.H. Congressman Dick Swett (1994).

The Foundation's Joe Yukica-New Hampshire Chapter was founded in 1987. Today, it has over 150 members and is one of more than 100 chapters (with over 10,000 members) across the United States. Its mission is to bring the overall national mission close to home: to promote amateur football in the State of New Hampshire. The cornerstone of the Joe Yukica Chapter's activities is its annual program to honor outstanding high school scholar-athletes in New Hampshire. Recognition of young men who excel on the playing field, in the classroom, and in their communities dramatizes the mission of the New Hampshire Chapter. The Scholar/Athlete Awards Banquet will be held this Tuesday, May 9 th at 6pm at The Yard banquet facility in Manchester.
