Montgomery Biscuits News Release

PEARL, Miss. - The Mississippi Braves started out attacking the Montgomery Biscuits with speed Tuesday night at Trustmark Park but ended up burying the Biscuits in an avalanche of offense instead.

The Braves stole six bases, a record for most in a game for both teams.

Braves center fielder Gregor Blanco had three of those steals and reached base four times. But in the third inning, he committed an error in center field that led to the Biscuits scoring the game's first run.

The Braves were guilty of three errors in that inning. Ryan Knox singled in a run and Montgomery took the 2-0 lead for starter Chris Flinn. Mississippi evened it at two apiece in the bottom of the inning though and then took the lead on a Matt Esquivel single in the fifth.

Catcher Ryan Christianson blasted a teo-run homer in the sixth to give the Biscuits the lead again, but the Braves poured on four runs in the bottom of that inning against Flinn and reliever Yorkin Ferreras. Christianson's second homer of the game, another two-run bomb in the eighth inning -- was too little, too late.

The Braves avoided the sweep and broke up a string of nine straight Biscuits wins against them, dating back to July 2005.

Montgomery opens a five-game series against the Birmingham Barons at Riverwalk Stadium Wednesday night. Biscuits starter Andrew Sonnanstine throws the first pitch at 7:05 and opposes Birmingham's prospect lefty Ray Liotta.
