April 22, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Las Vegas Venom News Release

Las Vegas, NV - April 22, 2006 - Today, Las Vegas Venom LLC (www.venombasketball.com) announced it has acquired the rights to launch a new basketball team for the American Basketball Association, (www.abalive.com) in the Las Vegas market, the Las Vegas Venom. The ownership group which is led by, former UNLV and NBA player, Tyrone Nesby, will begin play in the 2006-2007 season.

"I am very proud to be co-owner of the Las Vegas Venom" said Nesby when asked about his newest role in professional basketball. "I am a resident of Las Vegas and I love this city. This city has a lot of passion but it is missing a professional athletic team to represent what Las Vegas is about. I feel I can help make the Las Vegas Venom the team that Las Vegas will be proud of. I bring to the team years of professional basketball experience on the court and off that will be a valuable asset to the ABA. My desire is to have this team gain the support of the mayor Oscar Goodman who is a friend of mine and also some of Las Vegas's notable residents such as Andre Agassi and Steve Wynn. Now that I have retired from basketball, I feel this is a great organization for me to focus my time on. This team can potentially become one of the symbols of Las Vegas. My background in this city will also help draw fans to the team. I am a former UNLV Runnin' Rebel, which is the only college team that Las Vegas has. The Venom is not only an asset for Las Vegas sports fans but it can also serve as a door for young hopefuls who have not quite acquired the skills to get to the NBA, a chance to learn and grow while playing for the Venom. I am excited to be a part of this exciting venture and to be working with my partner Dan Savage." Said Nesby.

The Las Vegas Venom has already assembled an impressive ownership group and management team.

Dan Savage, former owner of the Boston Frenzy has agreed to be the teams Co-owner and General Manager.

"I'm excited to be a part of the ABA again," commented Savage, "Our concept of a "community team" is going to catch on like wildfire. We want to give the local fans a voice in the creation of our team. We will let the fans have a say in everything from the uniforms to who should sing the national anthem."

The management group also includes Scott Porter, as the Director of Player Development. Porter is one of sport's leading trainers, who has worked with many of today's premier NBA players and past superstars.

The team has also signed its first player; 7'7" center Neil Fingleton. Neil was named to the McDonalds All-American team in 2000 and then attended North Carolina before finishing up his college career at Holy Cross. Neil is currently in Las Vegas training with Scott Porter.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
