San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - Alex Rogosheske and Doug MacIver have been named as the 2005-06 San Diego Gulls Co-Community Players of the Year, the ECHL club announced Friday. Both players earn the honors after their countless efforts within the San Diego community this season.

Rogosheske, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in January, remained in San Diego and appeared at the most player appearances this season. Meanwhile MacIver, who was traded to Pensacola in March, ranked second on the club in most community appearances.

"The Gulls obviously take a lot pride in their success on the ice, but our off-ice presence is just as important," Chief Operating Officer Tera Black said. "I truly cannot say enough about both Alex's and Doug's efforts this season. Both players were injured for an extended period of time, but still came through in a major way for us in the community.

"I really want our fans to know how happy we are to give Alex and Doug this award. Alex, though injured half of the season, was always more than willing do anything asked of him. And the same can be said of Doug. It was tough to see him traded - that's the nature of the hockey business - but we still wanted to show our appreciation. He more than deserves it."

Throughout the season, the Gulls organize a countless amount of community events. Some events include school assembly appearances, public speaking engagements, radio/TV interviews, autograph sessions and team functions. The majority of community appearances require players to attend a local school to promote the game of hockey, talk about the team and hand out prizes to the students.

"Rogo and Mac have been a joy to work with this season," Gulls Public Relations Director Jeremy Zager said. "Whenever I needed a player to attend a particular event I would always go to these two. They were both extremely cooperative and genuinely loved helping out anyway they could. I'm very happy that both were selected for this honor."
