Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Apr. 10, 2006) - The Long Island Ducks, members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, today announced that they have signed former big league pitcher Nelson Figueroa to a contract for the 2006 season.

"Nelson is a great addition to our starting rotation," says Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "His experience and talent are an important addition to our staff."

The Brooklyn native is entering his 11th season of professional baseball in 2006. He was originally selected by the Mets in the 30th round of the 1995 draft. Figueroa has seen action in 74 games (33 starts) at the Major League level with the Diamondbacks, Phillies, Brewers and Pirates. The 32-year old enjoyed his finest season as a pro in 2003 when he began the year with Nashville (AAA, Pirates), going 12-5 with a 2.97 ERA in 23 starts. After his stellar performance with the Sounds, he was called up to Pittsburgh where he appeared in 12 games (three starts), earning a 2-1 mark with a 3.31 ERA. He owns a career 97-55 record in 216 minor league games (197 starts) with a 3.42 ERA and 1,110 strikeouts in 1,239.1 innings of work.

In an additional roster move, the Ducks have also announced that Bucky Jacobsen will join the club for Spring Training in Lakeland, Fla. after being unable to come to contract terms with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Long Island Ducks are entering their seventh season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have averaged over 100 percent attendance capacity of 6,002-seat Citibank Park in each of their first six seasons and are one of the most successful minor league sports franchises in the country.
