Evansville Otters News Release

Evansville, IN-The Evansville Otters professional baseball team has announced that former catcher Jason Radwan has had his contract purchased by the Seattle Mariners from his current team, the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League. Radwan is the 37th former Otter to have signed with a Major League Baseball organization, and the 23rd player from the past four seasons under field manager Greg Jelks and pitching coach Jeff Pohl.

Radwan spent parts of three seasons in Evansville, leading the Otters to two appearances in the Frontier League Championship Series. He appeared in 17 games at the end of the 2002 season, hitting .257 with four home runs and 13 RBI. Radwan spent the entire 2003 season in Evansville and was named the starting catcher in the All-Star Game when he hit .298 (tenth in the Frontier League) with 22 doubles, 11 home runs, and 61 RBI (fourth in the FL). After signing with the Fort Worth Cats for the 2004 season, Radwan returned to Evansville for the Otters playoff run, appearing in six regular season games before hitting .400 in six playoff games.

Radwan returned to Fort Worth in 2005, and finished with a .246 batting average, 16 doubles, nine home runs, and 49 RBI. He was traded from Fort Worth to Brockton following last season.

2006 will be Radwan's second stint in affiliated baseball, as he spent the bulk of the 2002 season in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, spending time with the South Georgia Waves, Gulf Coast Dodgers, and Vero Beach Dodgers. Radwan made his professional debut with the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League in 2000 and spent 2001 with the Duluth-Superior Dukes, when Otter manager Greg Jelks served as his hitting coach.

The Evansville Otters were voted a Platinum Winner in the Evansville Courier & Press Reader's Choice Awards and Best Sporting Event by the readers of Evansville Living magazine in 2005. The Otters open the 2006 home schedule on Saturday, May 27 against the Gateway Grizzlies.
