Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish announced today that Dave LaPoint has been hired as Field Manager for the 2006 campaign. LaPoint is the 4th manager in Bluefish history and he joins the club after serving the last four seasons as the pitching coach of the Long Island Ducks.

LaPoint has prior managerial experience having led the Adirondack Lumberjacks of the Northeast League to a championship in 1995. He has extensive coaching experience with MLB organizations as well as in Winter Ball.

LaPoint's 12 season playing career saw him make stops with 9 teams. A highlight of his playing days include two appearances in the 1982 World Series as his St. Louis Cardinals won a World's Championship. Dave earned the win in Game XX of that series.

"This is a good baseball guy", commented Bluefish GM Charlie Dowd. "Dave's experiences and knowledge of the Atlantic League will be a huge asset to our operation and I look forward to working with him." Not only does he have a tremendous baseball background but he embraces the notion of marketing the team through appearances and interaction with the community".

LaPoint's staff will be rounded out by 3B Coach Terry McGriff and Pitching Coach Brian Warren, both familiar names for Bluefish fans. McGriff was the club's original 1st pick in 1998 and he played for the Bluefish for 4 seasons prior to retiring. He has been a member of the coaching staff since 2002. Brian Warren returns as pitching coach after serving as interim pitching coach during September 2005. He had pitched for the Bluefish during the 2004 & 2005 seasons.

"Our staff has almost 25 years of experience combined in MLB and Japanese baseball. That knowledge base has me excited about the 2006 season and reclaiming our spot in the Atlantic League playoffs" said Dowd.

The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport. The Bluefish lead the league in franchise attendance, having drawn one million fans faster than any other team in Connecticut minor league history. 2006 season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 203-345-4800. The Bluefish home opener is May 3rd at 7:05 pm vs. the Long Island Ducks. Visit the Bluefish on-line at www.bridgeportbluefish.com.
