WINTER BASEBALL BANQUET SET FOR SATURDAY: The Sixth Annual Round Rock Express Winter Baseball Banquet will be this held this Saturday, January 28 at the United Heritage Center at The Dell Diamond.

Central Texas players and coaches from the professional, college, and high school baseball ranks will be honored at the Banquet, which is held by the Express in conjunction with the Round Rock Sertoma Club.

Former Astros pitcher and manager and current television broadcaster Larry Dierker will be the featured speaker. Headlining Saturday's awards will be the Lifetime Achievement Award to longtime Texas A&M University Head Baseball Coach Mark Johnson, who won 876 games and made 13 NCAA playoff appearances in his tenure from 1985-2005.

Proceeds from the Banquet will benefit the Round Rock Sertoma Club's efforts to assist children with speech and hearing disorders in the Round Rock area.

Mike Coolbaugh: Batted .281 with 27 homers and 101 rbi in 123 games for the Express in 2005...Was selected as Pacific Coast League All-Star 3B...tied for 3rd in PCL in rbi...Has a .183 batting average in 44 major league games with Milwaukee (2001) and St. Louis (2002)...Signed as a minor league free agent with Kansas City in the off-season and will be a non-roster invitee in the Royals major league spring training camp.

Travis Driskill: Was 9-5, 4.37 with 4 saves in 47 games/3 starts with the Express in 2005...Led the Round Rock staff in wins and appearances and ranked 2nd in innings (101) and strikeouts (84)...Is 11-13, 5.29 in 54 major league appearances with Baltimore (2002-03) and Colorado (2004)...Signed as a minor league free agent with Tampa Bay in the off-season and will be a non-roster invitee in the Devil Rays major league camp.

Huston Street: Was selected as the 2005 BBWAA American League Rookie of the Year...Will not be in attendance on Saturday night due to appearance at Sunday's New York Baseball Writers Dinner to receive Rookie of the Year Award...Was 5-1, 1.72 with 23 saves in 67 appearances for Oakland...Is on the United States roster for the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

Augie Garrido: Guided the University of Texas to the 2005 NCAA Division I National Championship...Has taken the Longhorns to five College World Series in the last six years, also winning the championship in 2002...Is the NCAA Division I all-time leader in victories, compiling a 1542-717-8 record in 37 total seasons at five schools.

Seth Johnston: Batted a team high .378 with 9 homers and 66 rbi in 72 games for the NCAA College World Series champion Longhorns in 2005...Was selected by San Diego in the 5th round of last June's MLB Draft...Had a .253 average with 2 homers and 23 rbi in 47 games at class A Eugene in the Northwest League in pro debut last summer.

J. Brent Cox: Was 8-3, 1.73 with 19 saves in 42 appearances for the 56-16 Longhorns in 2005...Was selected by the New York Yankees in the 2nd round (63rd overall pick) in last June's MLB Draft...Made pro debut at class A Tampa in the Florida State League, going 1-2, 2.60 in 16 relief appearances.

Adrian Alaniz: Compiled an 8-3 record with a 2.67 era in 23 games/16 starts for the University of Texas in his freshman season.

EXPRESS ALUMNI ON WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC ROSTERS: The Provisional Rosters for the 16 teams that will complete in the 2006 World Baseball Classic were announced last week and Round Rock Express alumni are well represented. WBC Roster players who played either class AA (2000-04) or class AAA (2005) in Round Rock include:

- Canada: SS Danny Klassen (2005)

- Dominican Republic: LHP Wandy Rodriguez (2004-05) and OF Willy Taveras (2004)

- Italy: LHP Phil Borzilla (2004-05) and LHP Mike Gallo (2003/2005)

- Netherlands: INF Ivanon Coffie (2004); RHP Kirk Saarloos (2002)

- United States: OF Lance Berkman (2005*); 3B Morgan Ensberg (2000); RHP Brad Lidge (2001-02); LHP Andy Pettitte (2004*)

NOTE: Lance Berkman will undergo arthroscopic right knee surgery on Thursday and will be sidelined 4-6 weeks.

The rosters for each country will be trimmed to 30 players for the World Baseball Classic, which will take place in Japan, Puerto Rico, and the United States from March 3-20.

WINTER BALL UPDATE: Several members 2005 Round Rock Express played key roles in the regular season success of Magallanes, who finished the Venezuelan League regular season with 11 consecutive wins and a 39-23 overall record... OF Luke Scott ranked 3rd in the league with 12 homers and 7th with a .345 batting average while driving in 30 runs in 35 games...Raul Chavez (.229 in 30 games) and Hector Gimenez (.288 in 30 games), the latter at Corpus Christi in 2005, split the catching duties...RHP Carlos Hernandez was 7-1, 3.27 in 11 starts and ranked 3rd in the league in wins...RHP Brandon Duckworth (0.82 in 6 games) and RHP Brandon Puffer (1.80 in 5 games), who returns to the Houston organization in 2006, worked out of the bullpen. RHP Fernando Nieve had a 1-2 record in seven appearances at Oriente.

INF Carlos Rivera batted .281 with 4 homers and 28 rbi in 41 games at Ponce in Puerto Rico...The Express 2005 regular 1st baseman tied for 3rd in the league in rbi.
