Real Salt Lake News Release

SALT LAKE CITY (Tuesday, January 17, 2006) - Real Salt Lake invites fans, sponsors and media to come join RSL players and front office staff at the organization's 2006 MLS SuperDraft watch party this Friday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m. MT, live on Fox Soccer Channel. The entire MLS SuperDraft can be followed live on MLSnet.com. The event will be held at the RSL offices located on the 2nd floor of Trolley Corners at 515 South 700 East, Suite 2R.

"This year's combine was similar to ones in the past except that this year there were more Generation adidas players. Several players showed well on some of the days and not so well on the other days," Ellinger said. "Coming out of the combine there were three or four players who we thought were special and think could have an impact right away."

RSL General Manager Steve Pastorino and Head Coach John Ellinger will be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to select the No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. RSL also currently holds rights to 26th overall in the third round. Real held the first overall pick last year in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft and selected 16-year old MF Nikolas Besagno who became the second-youngest draftee in MLS history, following 14-year old FW Freddy Adu (2004 MLS SuperDraft No. 1 pick selected by D.C. United).

The expansion club then followed up its first round pick with two second round selections adding FW Jamie Watson (13th overall) and GK Jay Nolly (22nd overall). RSL completed its first draft by selecting the 2005 adidas/MLS Combine MVP Luke Kreamalmeyer in the fourth round (37th overall).

RSL's natural 2006 2nd Round SuperDraft pick (14th overall) was acquired by the Chicago Fire on December 30, 2004 in a trade that involved sending RSL's natural 2005 3rd Round SuperDraft pick (25th overall) for FW Dipsy Selolwane and DF Evan Whitfield. On November 15, 2004 Real sent its natural 2006 4th Round SuperDraft pick (38th overall) and future considerations to FC Dallas for FW Jason Kreis.

"The Combine was a great start to an exciting week. Every MLS team is jockeying for position in advance of Friday's draft - and we are a club that sits in a great position to get the impact player we want in the first round, " Pastorino said. "The No. 2 pick overall is being coveted by multiple clubs, and we are prepared to do whatever it takes to better ourselves as much as possible."
