Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday signed defenseman John Adams to a standard player's contract.

Adams, a 23-year-old rookie from Wayzata, Minn., signed a professional tryout with the AHL's Springfield Falcons on Dec. 29 and went scoreless in five games prior to being released yesterday. He began the season with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, contributing 10 points (1-9-10) in 22 contests.

The Buffalo Sabres' fourth pick (82nd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Adams played four seasons at Boston College (2001-05). His Eagles squad made the NCAA tournament each of the last three seasons and advanced to the Frozen Four in 2004, before falling in the semifinals to the University of Maine and current Griffins goalie Jimmy Howard.

Adams will be available to make his Grand Rapids debut on Wednesday, when the Griffins host the Iowa Stars for a 7 p.m. faceoff at Van Andel Arena.
