It's An Event, Not Just A Game

January 13, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

Where in this day and age can you go to a professional sporting event and receive free parking, low-priced admission (free or reduced in most cases), a free game program, have court-side seating, meet the players who are happy to sign autographs, catch a free t-shirt, and be invited to dance on the playing court with a big yellow chicken? At a Strong Island Sound game!

The Strong Island Sound are a brand new professional basketball team playing on Long Island in the new version of the ABA, red white and blue basketball and all. The original ABA had a long tradition on Long Island and we hope to continue that with our team. We are looking to promote games with a family-friendly and affordable atmosphere. We are trying to establish a relationship with the community and would like to extend this invitation.

We would like to see as many fans as possible to experience our style of basketball in our inaugural season. We want the fans to get involved and enjoy the game like no other. We want it to be an "event" for you, not just a game. We are unlike any other professional sports team with the promotions that we are running.

*Agency Appreciation Night- free admission to that particular game for a special agency (Teachers, Health Care Workers, Police Department, Fire Department, Corrections/Sheriffs Department, Post Office, etc.)

*Strong Island Sound Salute- all military personnel (active and retired) are admitted to every one of our home games at half-price ($6.00)

*Strong Island Sound Respect- all seniors 55 and over are admitted to every one of our home games at a reduced rate of $8.00.

*$2.00 off admission for all fans showing their high school or college ID card

*CYO Appreciation Night- reduced admission of $8.00 for all youth organization basketball players and coaches. We encourage fans to wear their team jerseys and sit together with their coach. Our first CYO Night will be Saturday January 14th.

If you would like to nominate your agency for a Sound Appreciation Night, write us an e-mail and we will take it into consideration.

Log onto www.25percentoff.com for a $2.00 off coupon for Sound tickets.

We have a brand new mascot, Sheyken Bayke that we want to familiarize with the people on Long Island. He will be busy taking pictures with all the fans and throwing Sound t-shirts into the stands during "T-Shirt Toss Time-Outs". He also invites all the young fans down to mid-court at half time to join him in "The Chicken Dance".

All fans will receive a FREE game program upon entrance. Parking is also FREE at all Strong Island Sound home games. Tickets are General Admission. So the earlier you arrive, the closer to the action you can sit.

Our next home game is on Friday January 13th 7 p.m. at William Floyd Middle School. We will be playing the Baltimore Pearls. Our two main home venues this season are St. Joseph's College (Patchogue) and Suffolk Community College (Selden). We hope to be playing in a proposed 6,000 seat arena in Yaphank in the near future.

The Strong Island Sound have been profiled on News 12, Fox 5 Good Day New York, and had two articles in Newsday. We also had a television commercial that was shown on ESPN2, News 12, and Fox News Channel.

We are in the process of completely upgrading our official team website. We have added video clips from the news broadcasts, team highlight videos, and lots more. "Sound TV" is also available on the website via online streaming video of all our home games. We are also in the process of having our home games available on an internet web cast with a radio play-by-play team.

Tickets and team apparel can be purchased on the website, at the door the day of the game, and at the following locations: "The Athlete's Foot" stores in Roosevelt Field Mall, Sunrise Mall, Walt Whitman Mall, and Smith Haven Mall, Spicey's Chicken in Riverhead and Bellport.

We are hoping to have success with the sport of basketball similar to what the Long Island Ducks have had with baseball.

There are many sponsorship and advertising packages available for all businesses- big and small. Please contact us for more information. Professional sports are one of the best forms of advertising. Let our team work for your team.

We hope to see everyone at our next game. The complete schedule with all details for the promotions can be viewed at www.strongislandsound.com and the league website www.abalive.com . Thank you in advance.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
