Buzz Win Thriller in Tijuana

January 13, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maywood Buzz News Release

Tijuana, Mexico. When the final horn sounded, the ABA Orange County Buzz stole one from the Tijuana Dragons, 112-111 in front of 3500 plus fans. "We were not even supposed to be here, but a flight mix-up with our flight to Honolulu allowed us to come to play our friends south of the border - and we took advantage of the opportunity knowing that we would have to come in and play hard - and with only 7 players because several had left for Hawaii," stated head coach Burrel Lee. "And it was a fabulous game. James Williams and Lamar Gayle came up very big tonight, but so did all the others on our well balanced team."

Williams finished with 29 points, 24 rebounds, 5 blocks and 7 assists. Gayle finished with 30 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Patrick Binion chipped in 17 points and Wendall Robinson added 16. High scorers for Tijuana were Matt Valigh with 30 and Harold Arceniux with 27.

The Buzz trailed 27-4 after the first 8:37 passed, but just like the previous night, the Buzz used a strong defense to get right back in the game. But this would be the best game played between the two rivals in the last two seasons. With the score 111-109 and 9.9 seconds on the game clock, the Buzz called on Williams and with 4.2 on the clock, he hit a 3-point shot for the game winner. "I just tried to do it all today, score, rebound, get my team involved and it felt good. The game winner felt good from the inbound, to me dribbling to my release, I am happy we came away with the win," added Williams.

The Buzz now head across the Pacific for back to back games with the Hawaii Mega Force after winning 3 of its last five. The games in Hawaii are on Fri, Jan 13 and Sat, Jan 14 - and will be played at Kalaheo High School, 730 Llaina in Kailua, Hawaii.
