Bakersfield Condors News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz., - The Bakersfield Condors held the Phoenix Roadrunners to a season low 20 shots on goal, but a late goal by Phoenix Mark Wires was the difference as the Condors ceded a 3-1 decision to the Roadrunners in front of 3,347 at the America West Arena.

Bakersfield opened scoring halfway through the first period as the Condors converted on the power play. Scott Basiuk too a pass from Joel Irving and fed the puck to Kevin Truelson at the blue line. Truelson sent the wrist shot over the right shoulder of Phoenix netminder Mike Mole to give the Condors a 1-0 lead 9:59 into the first.

The Roadrunners answered back, closing out the period with a power play goal from Shawn Snider. Snider took a pass from Shaun Fisher and worked the puck into the slot, deking to catch Ryan Munce on the right post, and poking the puck free under Munce's glove on the left side to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, Bakersfield opened up the third on a 5-on-3 power play following penalties to Mark Wires and Brad Woods, but were unable to capitalize.

With 3:58 left in the game, Mark Wires positioned himself at the right post and fired a one-timer from Shaun Fisher. Ryan Munce made the blocker save, but the puck angled inside the post to give Phoenix a late 2-1 lead. The Condors would pull Ryan Munce for the extra skater, but Dean Tiltgen would strip the puck from the Condors point and tap it into the empty net to seal the game, putting Phoenix up 3-1.

Mike Mole earned the win for Phoenix, stopping 35 of 36 Condor shots. Ryan Munce was credited with the loss, making 17 saves on 19 shots faced.

Other notes: Prior to the game, Kevin St. Jacques was placed on the 7-day Injured Reserve. Dennis Shiryaev was activated before Sunday's contest in Phoenix. Scott Basiuk's assist streak was extended to four games after contributing to the Condors' lone goal.
