Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Florida Everblades edged the Charlotte Checkers 4-3 in a shootout Sunday in front of 4,190 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Bogdan Rudenko and Kevin Bergin each scored for Florida in the shootout, which went to a sixth shooter.

Bergin was named the First Star of the game after scoring a goal during the first period and in the shootout. Ernie Hartlieb also scored for the Everblades and was named the Second Star of the game. Charlotte's Mike Bayrack was named the Third Star of the game after a two-goal, one-assist performance.

The Checkers began the scoring with a goal from Bayrack at the 19:05 mark of the first period. But the Everblades tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period. Charlotte would build two more one-goal leads only to have Florida tie the game after each.

Bayrack's second goal of the night came at the 5:43 mark of the third on a power play, but wasn't enough to seal the win for the Checkers. Paul Cabana scored a short handed goal for the Everblades at the 8:10 mark of the third which forced the game to overtime.

Craig Kowalski (32 saves) picked up his ninth win of the season while Jeff Glass (29 saves) was the hard-luck loser for the Checkers.

The Checkers will be back in action Tuesday on the road as they face the Johnstown Chiefs at 7:00pm. The Checkers will return home on Thursday to host the Augusta Lynx at 7:00 pm. For more information, or tickets, call the Checkers Front Office at 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
