GLIFL hires Director of Officials

December 16, 2005 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release

The Great Lakes Indoor Football League is excited to announce Rick Radcliff as the league's first Director of Officials. Radcliff, a resident of Delaware, Ohio, will be responsible for finding, training, and scheduling game officials for each of the league's contests.

Radcliff has been involved with the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the past 10 years. He is a registered game official for varsity football, basketball, softball, baseball and volleyball, and is an OHSAA scheduler for game officials for each. He has also officiated games for the NWFA's Columbus Comets. Scheduled to retire in June 2006, he has also worked for 29 years 6 months for the City of Upper Arlington Parks & Recreation Department.

Radcliff has worked with the Comets since their beginning in women's football, which lends him to being able to train league officiating crews. "Just because we do high school football doesn't matter," he said. "You have to comprehend the rules of this game."

The league and Radcliff are also planning a February "Referee Camp." Interested game officials can contact Radcliff at rickradcliff@glifl.com. They will receive an application. When the application to attend the February camp is approved, that official will then receive a copy of the GLIFL's rulebook in order to review. Entire 5-man officiating crews are also encouraged to apply for the tryout. "We're dealing with professional athletes here. We need professional officials and officiating crews."

"We want our officials to know the rules," said GLIFL co-founder Jeff Spitaleri. "Rick Radcliff will help make sure they do. This is another great hire for our league."

The GLIFL kicks off its inaugural season on April 7, 2006. For more information about the Referee Camp, the league and its member teams, please visit the league website at www.glifl.com, or contact Director of Media Relations Josh Stein at jstein@glifl.com.
