SAN JOSE, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2005) - Former University of Miami all-purpose performer JASON GEATHERS signed a three-year contract to play for the two-time ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, the club announced today.

A four-year member of the Hurricanes program, Geathers (6-3, 215) played both receiver and tailback during his college career. He averaged 5.5 yards per rush attempt gaining 671 yards on 121 carries and also caught 40 passes for 492 yards in 42 career games.

During his 2003 senior season he rushed for 151 yards on 35 attempts and had 23 receptions for 277 yards leading Miami to an 11-2 record and an Orange Bowl victory over Florida State. He was also a member of Miami's 2001 squad that went 12-0 and claimed the National Championship with a Rose Bowl victory over Nebraska.

Following his collegiate career, Geathers spent time in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and joined the practice squad roster of the New York Giants in 2004.

A native Floridian, Geathers was ranked the No. 1 tailback in the state by the Florida Times-Union following his playing days at Spanish River High School. A gifted athlete, he also starred on the school's basketball team and ran track.

To make room on the roster the SaberCats placed FB/LB John Kuhn on their Other League Exempt list after he signed to the practice squad of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The SaberCats kickoff the 2006 season at HP Pavilion against the expansion Utah Blaze on Saturday, January 28. Individual game tickets are available and can be purchased through any Northern California TicketMaster outlet, online at www.ticketmaster.com and at the HP Pavilion box office.
