Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY picks up points in the club's tenth consecutive road game, winning at Binghamton 6-4 Friday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The BEARS started with a bang when Louis Robitaille scored against Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard just 5:01 into the game to give HERSHEY a 1-0 lead. After Senators forward Steve Martins scored at 5:20, the BEARS would score two more times before intermission. Tomas Fleischmann scored on a penalty shot at 15:01 before Eric Fehr scored his 13th of the season at 16:48. Binghamton outshot HERSHEY 10-9 in the first period, but the BEARS had a 3-1 lead.
The offense continued into the second period, with Binghamton's Grant Potulny scoring at 9:07. Jared Aulin answered for the BEARS at 9:34 on the power play, but the Sens would strike again with a goal from Jeff Heerema at 13:34. Boyd Gordon picked up his seventh goal of the season at 14:19 to give HERSHEY a 5-3 lead, but Binghamton would pull within one when Denis Hamel scored his 13th goal of the year at 17:09 of the period. The BEARS scored five goals on 20 shots through two periods, but led only 5-4 after two periods.
In the third period, the Senators threatened but could not score. Robitaille added an empty net goal at 18:52 to finish the scoring.
The penalty shot goal scored by Fleischmann was the first successful penalty shot by a BEARS skater since February 13, 2004. Jordan Krestanovich scored against Syracuse's Pascal Leclaire that night at GIANT Center. The two short-handed goals marked the first time in Senators history that the team allowed two shortys in the same game. Before Friday's game, the BEARS had not allowed more than one power play goals in one game since October 30 at Hamilton.
The BEARS will host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Tickets remain for both games this weekend at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 508-BEAR. Saturday's game will be televised by WHTM-TV in Harrisburg with John Walton and Gregg Mace. Scott Bradley and John Sparenberg will handle the call on radio beginning at 6:40 p.m.
