Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Toronto, ON - Hamilton goaltender Jeff DesLauriers made 26 saves, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs were defeated 2-1 by the Toronto Marlies on Saturday night at Ricoh Coliseum. It was the Bulldogs fourth loss in a row and second in as many nights to the Marlies. Hamilton's record now stands at 8-16-0-2.
The first period was scoreless, with Toronto out-shooting Hamilton 9-3.
Francis Lemieux gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead with 1:16 remaining in the middle frame when he scored his fifth goal of the season. After a Marlies giveaway just inside their own blueline, Lemieux snapped a shot past Toronto goaltender Jean-Francois Racine.
Toronto tied the game 3:53 into the third period with a delayed call coming to Hamilton. John Pohl wired a shot from the top of the face-off circle that beat Bulldogs netminder Jeff DesLauriers.
Marlies forward Kris Newbury scored the game-winner at the 10:53 mark of the third period when he buried the rebound after DesLauriers made a pad save on Tyler Beechey's initial shot.
DesLauriers was named the game's second star, while Toronto netminder Jean-Francois Racine stopped 23 of 24 shots to earn the win and was named the game's third star.
Neither team could manage a power-play goal, with Hamilton having seven opportunities and Toronto having six.
The Bulldogs return to the ice on Wednesday, December 7, when they take on the Griffins at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
The Bulldogs next home game will take place on Friday, December 9, when they host the Syracuse Crunch. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Copps Coliseum Box Office (in-person sales only), any Ticketmaster outlet, or online at ticketmaster.ca.
