Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Forward Jim Campell scored the only goal of the game in overtime and goaltender Gerald Coleman recorded his first professional shutout as the Springfield Falcons beat the Manchester Monarchs, 1-0, in overtime at the Verizon Wireless Arena in front of a crowd of 8,643 on Saturday night. Manchester (15-3-1-3, 34 points) remains atop the Atlantic Division standings. Springfield (12-8-1-2, 27 points) is tied for third place in the Atlantic Division with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The lone goal from Campbell, his seventh of the season, came at the 49-second mark of overtime. Monarchs' defenseman Denis Grebeshkov lost the puck to Falcons' left wing Ryan Craig at Springfield's blue-line which created a 2-on-1 breakaway. Craig and Campbell skated into the offensive zone with only Monarchs defenseman Richard Petiot and goaltender Adam Hauser in front of the net. Craig slid the puck over to Campbell for the one-timer and game-winning goal.
Rookie goaltender Coleman (9-3-0) stopped all 26 shots the Monarchs fired his way for his first career shutout. Hauser (10-3-2) took his first overtime loss of the season making 24 saves on 25 Springfield shots.
Manchester went 0-for-7 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-10 with the man advantage.
The Monarchs have sent 15 out of their 22 games thus far this season into overtime or a shootout, winning five of those games in overtime and six in a shootout. Tonight's game was the club's first overtime loss of the season. Manchester has also lost three shootout games.
Manchester is undefeated in regulation in their last 13 games (10-0-1-2), including their last seven games on home ice (5-0-1-1).
The Monarchs finish up a three-in-three weekend at the Cumberland County Civic Center with a match-up against the Portland Pirates on Sunday, December 4 at 4:05 p.m.
