December 3, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - Chad LaRose scored twice and Vitaly Kolesnik stopped all 35 shots as the Lowell Lock Monsters (11-10-1-2) defeated the Providence Bruins (7-10-1-1) 2-0 at Tsongas Arena on Friday night.
The first period moved quickly, with few whistles, only four penalties and no goals. Vitaly Kolesnik stopped 17 shots in the opening frame between the Lowell pipes, including a trio of saves on a Providence power play in the opening minutes. Later he stopped NHL veteran Shawn McEachern on a 2-on-1 with less than three minutes remaining in the period. Meanwhile, the fans held onto their teddy bears...
Though the Lock Monsters continued to pressure in the second, it remained scoreless for most of the period. But late in the stanza, while shorthanded, Lowell finally lit the lamp. Chad LaRose slammed in a rebound of a Frantisek Skladany shot that sent the fur flying. His team-leading 13th of the season activated the Teddy Bear Toss and made it 1-0. Kolesnik had turned out 27 saves through the first 40 minutes.
Lowell controlled much of the final period. They pounded G Tim Thomas with 18 third period shots on goal as they held tightly to the narrow lead. With less than two minutes to play and the Bruins threatening to tie it, the Lock Monsters went shorthanded. LaRose put the nail in the coffin, however, with his second shortie of the night, into the open net for the final margin.
Lowell heads to Providence on Sunday for a 4:05 p.m. match. They return home next Wednesday to host the Springfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, December 10th the Portland Pirates come to town for Patriots Night at Tsongas Arena. Select members of the New England Patriots Cheerleaders will be performing and signing autographs. Plus, enter to win an autographed Rodney Harrison Pats helmet, courtesy of Nashua Sports Collectibles.
