Toronto Blue Jays sign San Diego Surf Dawgs Hitting Coach Dan Cholowsky

Pleasanton, CA November 30, 2005: The Golden Baseball League announced today that San Diego Surf Dawgs' Hitting Coach Dan Cholowsky has been signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as an Area Scout. Cholowsky has been assigned the four corner area of the southwest and will cover the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona to assess players and acquire talent for the major league organization.
"First my pitching coach to the Red Sox and now Dan to the Blue Jays, I just can't hang on to my coaches," said Terry Kennedy, manager of the San Diego Surf Dawgs. "Actually, the Blue Jays could not have done better as Dan did a tremendous job for us last season. He was instrumental in developing a number of our players into better hitters. He was also a major part of the scouting and recruiting process as we put the team together and upgraded during the season."
Cholowsky was drafted out of college after a standout career at the University of California in the 1st round by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1991. He spent eight seasons in the minor leagues including 5 at the Triple-A level before retiring as a player and moving into player representation. He scouted and signed high potential players as a sports agent for a number of years before moving into coaching. He coached at the college level for a season before joining the Surf Dawgs as their hitting coach in 2005.
"Dan is a great example of how independent professional baseball provides career advancement opportunities for more than just our players," said Kevin Outcalt, Commissioner of the GBL. "This is our second coach this month to be signed as a major league scout following our many player sales earlier this year."
