Razorsharks take a bite out of Sound

November 30, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

Patchogue, NY. The ABA Strong Island Sound were defeated by the Rochester Razorsharks 94-83 at St. Joseph's College. The home team fell behind by 26 after the first quarter but outscored Rochester 73-58 the rest of the way. The deficit proved to be too much as the Sound fell to 1-5.

Another slow start spelled disaster for the team from Long Island. A huge lead by the visiting club proved to be enough though the Sound outscored their opponent by 15 points in the second half. For Rochester, Keith Freel led all scorers with 25 points. The guard out of the University of Virginia hit some clutch outside shots in the fourth quarter.

For the Sound, John Strickland had another solid game. He had 21 points in 42 minutes. Raphael Edwards was the team's next highest scorer with 20. Following the game, head coach Joe Medina comments, "At halftime, the team took a look at themselves and saw what they had to do. They played good defense and caused turnovers (in the second half). We had better looks when we went down low." Medina further stated, "We have to come out hungrier. The last three games we've played half a game. We have to play a full game with team chemistry."

Guard Lee Church proved to be a spark off the bench with 14 points and was a catalyst of the runs the team made to close the gap. "These 5 losses are behind us," said Church. "We have to prepare for what is in front of us. We can't change what's already happened."

The Sound host the Boston Frenzy and Niagara Daredevils Friday and Saturday at 7pm. These are their first two home games to be held at Suffolk Community College in Selden. Tickets are $12. at the door. Special price of $9 with high school or college ID.
