Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they have signed left wing David Spina to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Spina will join the Falcons on Wednesday as they prepare to host the Albany River Rats on Friday night at the MassMutual Center starting at 8:05 PM.

Spina has played in 11 games for the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL this season recording a team leading seven goals. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Mesa, Arizona also leads South Carolina in power play goals this season with four.

"The scouting report we received on Spina both at the college and professional levels was very positive," said Falcons General Manager Bruce Landon. "Spina will provide us with a lot of speed and quickness and he has shown a finishing touch this season. With the new rules implemented this year, we feel Spina is going to add an element you can never have too much of as a hockey team, an element of speed and quickness."

Spina is in his first full season of professional hockey after spending four seasons with the Boston College Eagles from 2001-2005. In 138 career games with the Eagles, he registered 49 goals and 54 assists for 103 points. Spina made his professional debut last season playing in nine games with the Utah Grizzlies (AHL).

The Falcons return to action on Friday, November 18 when they host the Albany River Rats at the MassMutual Center starting at 8:05 PM. Springfield will travel to Bridgeport on Saturday before returning home on Sunday to host the Binghamton Senators at 4:05 PM. All three games can be heard live on the Falcons Hockey Network, WMAS AM 1450, as "The Voice" of the Falcons John Michael handles the play-by-play duties. All games can also be seen live through the B-2 Network for only $6.00.
