Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(Lancaster, CA)-- The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Lancaster JetHawks announced Friday that Brett Butler has been named the 2006 manager at Lancaster, the organization's Class-A team in the California League. The former All-Star outfielder just completed his first season as a Major League coach, serving the Diamondbacks as their first base and outfielder coach during the 2005 campaign.

This is Butler's second minor league managerial role after leading the Gulf Coast Mets of the Florida State League in 2004. Since wrapping up his playing career in 1997, the 48-year old Butler has also worked as a spring training advisor for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2002) and a roving outfielder/baserunning/bunting consultant in the New York Mets' system in 2003.

Butler had a 17-year Major League playing career that began in 1979 with Atlanta and included stops with Cleveland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and the Mets. He was a lifetime .290 hitter over 2,213 career games and was only one of 26 players in history to compile at least 500 stolen bases and 2000 career hits.

Butler will be the third manager in as many years for the JetHawks who have reached the California League Playoffs the past two years under managers Bill Plummer and Wally Backman in 2005 and 2004 respectively.

The remainder of the JetHawks coaching staff will be named at a later date.

Ticket packages for the 2006 Lancaster JetHawks season are on sale now. For information, please call 661-726-5400 or visit the JetHawks website at www.jethawks.com.
