Everblades win fourth straight, beat the Stingrays in OT

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (4-1-0) picked up their fourth straight win with a 5-4 overtime victory over the South Carolina Stingrays (2-4-4) on Tuesday night at Germain Arena. The Everblades collected three points each from Ernie Hartlieb and Steve Saviano, and watched rookie defenseman Nick Vukovic tally the game-winner to help pick up their third come-from-behind win of the season.

The Stingrays opened the scoring with a power play goal at 6:02 of the opening period when Dave Spina beat Everblades goaltender Phil Osaer. The one-goal lead held into the second period, when the teams exploded for six goals.

The Everblades battled back to take their first lead of the night with a pair of goals in the first 5:04 of the frame. Saviano tied the game beating South Carolina goaltender Mike Brown with a short-handed goal just 1:27 into the period and rookie Dan Sisca collected his first professional goal shortly after.

The lead however was short lived as the Stingrays fired back with three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead late in the period. J.F. David, Jeff Legue and Robin Gomez all picked up second period goals for South Carolina. The Stingrays lead was cut to one when Hartlieb scored the first of his two goals with 6:14 remaining in the period.

Down by one in the third period the Everblades battled back to force overtime when Hartlieb collected a power play goal at 14:01 of the period, sending the crowd into a frenzy and the game to overtime.

In the overtime period the teams skated end-to-end with chances and it was the Everblades that cashed in when Vukovic rifled home a shot from the slot at 3:21 to win the game for the 'Blades.

Osaer (3-1-0) earned his third straight win between the pipes for the Everblades by turning away 28 of 32 South Carolina shots, and Brown (0-0-2) collected a tie in the standings after allowing five goals on 34 shots.

On the power-play, the Everblades finished 1-for-4 and the Stingrays closed out the night 2-for-7.

The Everblades travel to Gwinnett to take on the Gladiators on Friday & Saturday, November 11 & 12 at 7:35 p.m. Florida's next home game is Friday, November 18 vs. Charlotte.
