The Gladiators announce the Light the Lamp Charity Program

November 8, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators presented the Light the Lamp charitable fundraising program today and also announced that Peggy Slappey Properties has joined as a charter member of the new endeavor. The Gladiators Light the Lamp Program will raise money for the many North Metro Atlanta Area charities currently being served by the Gladiators Foundation for Kids. Through the program, fans and corporate partners will have the opportunity to pledge a monetary donation for each home goal that the Gladiators score during the 2005 - 2006 season.

Peggy Slappey Properties has agreed to kick off the program through a generous donation of $ 50.00 for each goal that the Gladiators score at home during the season. The Gladiators, in their third season of play, have generally been amongst the league leaders in total goals scored as well as home goals scored. Last year, including the post-season, the Gladiators scored 147 goals at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

"We are very proud of our affiliation with the Gwinnett Gladiators," said Peggy Slappey, "and we are looking forward to working with the team in this endeavor. Both of our organizations have a strong commitment to improving the community that we live in and helping as many worthwhile charitable organizations in the area that we can. We hope that through the promotion of the Light the Lamp Program, many other companies and individuals will join us as we cheer on the Gladiators. And now, every time that the team scores, they'll be adding a little more support into our community."

The Light the Lamp Program allows both businesses and individuals to pledge. The program has been set up to encourage fans of all ages to join in as donations of every financial level will be accepted beginning at only 25 cents per home goal scored.

"We want to thank Peggy Slappey Properties for being our first corporate partner to join the Light the Lamp Program and we certainly hope that many of our corporate partners and ticket holders will also become involved," said Gladiators President Steve Chapman, "but we also wanted to create a program that would enable our youngest fans and our area families to back the team and lend their support. One hope that we have is that the program might provide a fun avenue to enable parents to teach the value of giving to their kids."

Beginning today, fans will be able to sign up for the program on line at www.gwinnettgladiators.com. In addition, Light the Lamp pledge sheets will be available at the Gladiators Customer Service Booth at each home game. Fans may join the program at any point during the season as all pledges will be retroactive to the Gladiators first home game.

Throughout the season, fans may keep track of the amount of money raised for charity through the Gladiators Light the Lamp update on the team website and through the Light the Lamp Report during each Gladiators home game and game broadcast. All proceeds from the Light the Lamp Program will be donated to the Gladiators Foundation for Kids. The foundation benefits many North Metro Atlanta area charities and focuses primarily, although not exclusively, on charities that assist or enrich the lives of children. The Foundation is monitored by the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia which is a registered 501-C3 not-for-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. Since its inception in the summer of 2004, the Gladiators Foundation for Kids has provided cash grants totaling $ 20,000 to local charitable organizations.
